PÁL KISS TAKES CHAMPIONSHIP LEAD

Kartlink - Tue, 04/27/2010 - 00:34

Atech Grand Prix’s Tamás Pál Kiss has moved into the lead of the
Michelin Formula Renault UK Championship points table after the Hungarian took
victory and second place in the two rounds at Rockingham. Swiss Filipino Marlon
Stockinger took his first FR podium, narrowly missing out on a second in race
two but Briton Nick Yelloly was denied a podium finish when he was sidelined
with a clutch problem.
The weekend kicked off well for the Silverstone-based team with all
three drivers performing well in Friday’s tests and Saturday’s official
qualifying, the trio all in the top six for the opening race.  In that
Pál Kiss made a good start to
slot into second place ahead of Yelloly and Stockinger with pole-man Harry
Tincknell in the lead.
However Tincknell’s lead was short-lived with a charging Pál Kiss
desperate to repeat his performance at Thruxton when he took his maiden series
victory. On lap three the 18 year-old made his move to pass the leader with
Yelloly and Stockinger holding third and fourth
places.
On lap eight Marlon found a way past Nick to move into the final
podium place, the pair battling over the position for several laps.
However an engine problem, which started
on the fourth lap forced the unfortunate Yelloly into retirement two laps from
home.
Up at the front, Pál Kiss had gradually extended his lead to take
his second win in three races with Stockinger following Tincknell across the
line in third place.
The day’s second race produced another strong drive from Pál Kiss
despite proving a harder race for the Hell-backed teenager, as he took a
well-deserved second place.  Behind
him a good start from Stockinger allowed him to move into third place until a
throttle problem dropped him down the order, ultimately ending his race on lap
four.
For Yelloly, a superb start saw him gain two places on the opening
lap and thereafter a strong drive by the 18 year-old allowed him to take
seventh, some consolation for his disappointing non finish in race one.

“It was a great weekend again and I’m very happy to take another win,”
said Tamás. “Once again the team did a great job and I think all of us are all
really strong now. With all three drivers being so close and competitive, it
looks really good for all of us for the rest of the
season.”
Team principal David Hayle was equally delighted with the outcome.
“Tamás once again drove exceptionally well and his second win of the season was
very well deserved.  Marlon was
outstanding over the course of the weekend and this bodes well for the
remaining
races.
“Nick
was unlucky to have the problem he had in the first race but his speed and
ability over the remaining races will I’m sure allow him to soon take his first
race win.”

The Silverstone-based team will be back in action this weekend
when the series resumes at Brands Hatch in Kent over the weekend of 1/2 May.

HALE STORMS FORMULA RENAULT AT BRANDS

Kartlink - Fri, 04/23/2010 - 19:49

Bristol teenager Mitchell Hale has shot to the top of the Formula
Renault BARC Championship standings after a sensational win in the
opening round at Brands Hatch last weekend.

Hale, 16 years old, backed up his win in the first race with a third
place in race two, and has already marked himself out as the man to
beat in the series.

After competing in the Ginetta Junior Championship last season,
Mitchell joined leading team Fortec Motorsport for 2010 and was
getting his first-ever taste of single-seater racing over the Brands
Hatch weekend. He was competing against many drivers who already had
racing experience of Formula Renault, making his achievement, which
also included fastest lap in both races, all the more impressive.

“It was good fun,” he said. “I always knew we were going to be quite
quick because we were fastest in the official test before the race
meeting. But I also knew that qualifying is very hard in Formula
Renault and that overtaking is very difficult.”

That is particularly the case on the Brands Hatch Indy circuit, where
the straights are very short, but Hale showed great bravery to make
some superb overtaking moves. In the first race, he qualified second
but took the lead with a brave manoeuvre at the infamous Paddock Hill
Bend. “The guy in front made a mistake at the previous corner and was
defending into Paddock,” said Mitchell. “But I just moved further to
the inside and dived in front – I’m pretty sure I had two wheels on
the grass!”

Hale qualified on pole position for race two, but due to tyre rubber
being put down on the circuit from other races he had too much grip
off the startline and stalled. That put him well down the order, but
he pulled off some more overtaking moves on the way to third place,
right on the tail of the leading duo.

“I overtook three cars and someone else went out with a mechanical
problem, so that was great for me. I was really fast and catching the
leading two. I literally caught them on the last lap but ran out of
time to make any more moves.”

Hale was delighted with his maiden weekend in single-seater racing
cars. “I like the cars a lot more than the Ginetta Junior sportscar I
raced last year. They’ve got more power and far more grip, and that
suits my driving style quite a bit better because it’s closer to
karting, where I raced before last year.”

Mitchell’s next race outing is at Silverstone, which the Formula
Renault BARC series visits on May 8/9. And there’s every chance of
another win: “It should be good at Silverstone. I was fastest there
when we did the official test, so I’m really looking forward to it.”

Facts about Formula Renault BARC

It is the first step on the UK single-seater ladder for young aspiring
Formula 1 drivers

It uses the same Tatuus Formula Renault chassis in which Lewis
Hamilton and Kimi Raikkonen won titles as up-and-coming young drivers

Top speeds are around 150mph, depending on gearing, but average lap
speeds can approach 120mph at Thruxton, Britain’s fastest circuit

Nyck DE VRIES – WSK, Zuera ( E ) – Super Nyck in Super KF!

Kartlink - Fri, 04/23/2010 - 19:27

After the cancellation of the European Championship, the WSK Euro
Series has become an undisputable reference point for top-level
international karting. Nyck De Vries races in Super FK, the most
competitive category of the series, where the young Dutch driver duels
shoulder-to-shoulder with all the most experienced drivers. Despite
his rookie status, he is beginning to emerge. After a second place in
Italy, in March, he mounted again on the second step of the podium in
Spain. Victory was closer than ever.

Nyck De Vries was happy to be back in Spain, on the Zuera circuit,
near Saragossa, where the young Dutch driver achieved some of his most
exciting victories. At the end of 2008, it was there that he fought
for victory in the WSK and then conquered the title of European KF3
(Junior) Champion last year. "The circuit is a lot more difficult than
it looks", Nyck admitted. "There are long straight stretches where you
need a very long gear ratio, which however penalises you in the bends.
So it is fundamental to perfectly adjust one's kart and exploit at
best the power of one's engine".

Nick worked closely with his technical team and analysed all data
acquired to leave nothing to chance in free practice, in order to find
the best adjustments for his Zanardi chassis and his new Parilla
engines. In timed qualifying, good results came as expected. Nyck De
Vries was second, a place he maintained at the end of the qualifying
heats. "Drivers using Vortex engines were fast in Zuera, especially
Armand Convers who was my toughest rival of the weekend".

The pre-final confirmed his impressions and the young Dutch driver
(who is just 15) was constantly on the attack within the lead pack.
Once again, his ability to delay braking until the last moment to
overtake his rivals did wonders and Nyck crossed the finish line in
second place. "Convers opened a gap at the start of the race. I posted
the best lap of the race, but the gap was too big".

In the final race, tension moved up a notch. "At the flying start,
Convers took me by surprise by accelerating very early and the whole
internal row took advantage of that. So I had to fight hard at the
start of the race and to overtake several drivers to regain my second
place. I posted another best lap time, but was unable to reach Convers
who, again, had taken advantage of the situation to gain more ground".

Thanks to this high-level performance, to his speed and to his
maturity, the driver from Chiesa Corse was again close to victory in
the Super KF category, where rookies can be rarely seen on a podium.
Three of the five WSK Euro Series meetings have already been held and
Nyck De Vries occupies a flattering third place in the provisional
standings of the championship. Next WSK round will be held in Genk
(Belgium) on 8th and 9th May, on a circuit where Nyck has already
conquered several victories in KF3.

ENERGY Corse – Energy Flies From Victory to Victory

Kartlink - Fri, 04/23/2010 - 19:07

In KF just like in KZ, Energy has collected a long series of victories
at the latest international meetings, both in Italy and in Spain. The
Italian chassis has proven to be both multivalent and effective and
has allowed drivers from Energy Corse Team to frequently make it to
the podium, in all kind of circuits and weather conditions. Energy has
already taken an important leap forward in the race to the titles of
the WSK Euro Series and the European Championship...

Margutti: Podium for Mitchell and JRP

The JRP team moved to the Castelletto di Branduzzo circuit, South of
Milan, for the 21st Andrea Margutti Trophy. Jordan King and Gilbert
Mitchell were always in the lead pack in KF2, both in dry and wet
weather conditions. 5th at the end of the heats, the British driver
felt at ease during the qualifying phase, but it was Mitchell who
achieved the best result in the rain, during the final race. His team
found an excellent setup and the Australian driver made it to the
third step of the podium, at the wheel of his Energy-TM.

WSK / Lonato: Energy Dominates in KF2 and KZ2

In Lonato, drivers from the Energy Corse Team were fully satisfied
with the competitiveness of their equipment. On a track where grip
acquired more and more importance with the passing of days, the
Italian chassis shined for its effectiveness. In KF2, for example,
where there were many candidates to victory, Nicolaj Moller-Madsen
staged an impressive performance, managing to give the pack the slip
both in pre-final and in the final race. The Danish driver was
therefore at the lead of the WSK Euro Series after the Lonato round.
And since good fortune sometimes comes in pairs, Paolo De Conto also
made it to the podium, this time to the first step. In KZ2, the driver
from Energy Corse secured the good results achieved in timed
qualifying until the final race!

Two double successes in the European KZ2 Championship!

Energy was the highest visibility brand in Sarno, at the opening of
the European KZ2 Championship. Paolo De Conto, Marcel Jeleniowski,
Kevin Leijtens, Yan Pesce and Joel Johansson were all very competitive
and all scored points, at the foot of the Vesuvius. When an accident
during the race slowed down the progression of a driver, one of his
team mates was ready to take his place in the lead pack. Race 1 -
where rain tyres were mounted due to the wet track - ended in the best
possible way for Energy, with a double success by Jeleniowsk-De Conto
and a fourth place for Pesce. Though Jeleniowski and Pesce lost
several places in Race 2 after an accident, it was Leijtens' turn to
make it to the second step of the podium, behind an unbeatable De
Conto.

WSK / Zuera: Pole in KF3, Victory in KZ2

With the pole position conquered by Dennis Olsen in KF3, the Energy
Corse Team demonstrated once again its determination to achieve high
performance in all the categories where the Italian constructor is
present. In the category 13 to15-year olds, the Norwegian driver had
then the satisfaction to win a heat and score his first points in KF3,
with an encouraging 7th place for a young driver. As for Paolo De
Conto, he conquered his third victory in three races in KZ2, gaining a
large advantage in the provisional standings of the WSK Euro Series.
Meanwhile, his team mate Joel Johansson (who was fourth) keeps coming
closer to the podium.

A comment by Michele Panigada (team manager)

"I would like to congratulate all the members of the team, all our
partners and our engine mechanics (Rizzi and GKS) that contributed to
the excellent results achieved by Energy over the last few weeks, both
in the KF and KZ categories. Our determination not to leave anything
to chance, both from a technical and organisational point of view,
continues to bear fruits".

Beitske VISSER – WSK, Zuera ( E ) – The Podium: A Good Habit for Beitske

Kartlink - Fri, 04/23/2010 - 19:04

Karting is a difficult discipline, both from a driving and technical
point of view, but it becomes even more complex when it reaches
international level. Good results are never easy to achieve, but
repeating positive results is even more challenging. In Spain, at the
third round of the WSK Euro Series, Beitske Visser overcame the
difficulties inherent in this sport to climb on the podium again. The
rest of the season can be seen in a more optimistic light now...

After stopping at the two Italian circuits of Muro Leccese and Lonato
in March, the WSK Euro Series moved to Spain, near Saragossa. The
Zuera track has been tailor made for the 125cc gearbox karts that
Beitske Visser drives this season in the KZ2 category. "Here we reach
very high speeds, it is really cool. There are several parts where you
can overtake and my equipment is working better and better. Free
practice went fine, I feel confident about the race", the fast Dutch
girl commented.

Official competition started with timed qualifying. Beitske was fourth
in her category. According to the programme, each driver has to go
through two qualifying heats and drivers are not willing to show
generosity within the pack. At the wheel of her Intrepid-TM, she was
not intimidated and took advantage of the situation to set some
excellent lap times. "I love it when the track gets covered with
rubber deposits and grip increases more and more during the race".

Unfortunately, this situation changed on Sunday, after rain fell on
part of Spain. "We had to start from zero with adjustments", Beitske
pointed out. "But it takes more than that to discourage me, so I
started the final phase armed to the teeth. I felt my performance was
going better lap after lap and I even gained one place". In addition
to that, the KZ2 category is integrated with the KZ1 pack, which
gathers the most experienced kart drivers at international level.
"Making your own race while fighting against more experienced drivers
is highly motivating".

In the final race, Beitske Visser distinguished herself on the two
scoreboards: second in the final race in KZ2 and in the top 10 in the
overall standings. "For the time being, Italian De Conto is my
reference point in the category. He has won again this time, but I
keep getting closer to him. I even managed to drive faster than him in
the final race and my goal is to beat him soon. I am really determined
to do that".

She is definitely one of the most well-known girls in international
karting, propelled to second place in the championship now that three
out of five WSK Euro Series rounds have already taken place.

Julie TONELLI – WSK, Zuera ( E ) – Zuera : en avant les filles !

Kartlink - Fri, 04/23/2010 - 19:03
